8 www.DesertMessenger.com September 20, 2023 The Salvation Army happenings Whew!! We have made it with deter- mination through another month of record-breaking hot weather and with some days of unbearable humidity. Our amazing volunteers and shop- pers have been so dedicated. Thanks to all. Looking forward to cooler Au- tumn days. Please hurry Fall. The store is beautifully decorated for Halloween thanks to talented Debb and Barb. They have displayed an awesome collection of costumes, decorations, and fun items ready for your decorating needs. Our Hal- loween tree was decorated spookily by crafty Holly. Unusual items that we have; An old B. Ruggerius Faciebat Cremo- nensis # 1673 violin in the original case, nice collection of older Ari- zona Highways magazines, 2 new Keystone "Raptor" screen walls for toy hauler, an under-seat storage compartment for truck, and a new Class C Motorhome vinyl cover. We never know what unique items we will be blessed with as donations. Thanks so much. Don't forget our adult and child dia- per program is always available. This is a monthly program with a simple sign-up procedure. Please ask. We also have a large assortment of medical devices that are avail- able on a loan-out basis with a re- fundable deposit upon the item be- ing returned. We continue to have free shoes, socks, and miscellaneous items out front of the store and a free clothing rack and food available inside each day. You select your day, time, and location here in Quartzsite. 100% of the funds col- lected through this campaign stay in our local community. Fun to do with a friend. Come see me for de- tails. Thanks. Please continue to donate your un- needed eyeglasses. I took a huge bag to a Lion's Club receiving office last week. They were very appreciative. A reminder that we return to Winter Hours on Tuesday, October 3rd. The hours will be 9:00am to 1:00 pm. May your troubles be less, Your blessings be more, And nothing but happiness Comes through your door! Please understand that our building has no windows, no air exchange ventilation, our aisles are tight, and we have many senior volunteers with health concerns. We are ask- ing for personal space of six feet (camel length) and recommending a face covering- which we provide, for both us and our amazing shoppers. We appreciate your understanding. Remember, starting October 1, our hours change back to 8-Noon on Tues & Thurs. When you receive groceries you cannot eat, please either return them to the food bank or share them with others. If you live in an RV park, you could start a table in your clubhouse to leave groceries for others. Your donation makes a difference. We are a privately owned nonprofit and must raise all the funds we need to operate. When donating to FQFB, you not only receive that good feel- ing of helping the community, but you can write us off on your taxes as we are a 501c3 nonprofit. Do you work and owe AZ Taxes? You can donate that money to the food bank instead of paying the state with the AZ Tax Credit. That is not a tax write-off but a credit on your actual AZ taxes that you owe up to $841 of your AZ taxes that you do not have to pay. Dollar for dollar of your donations goes to us, and it is still an IRS write-off. If you cannot donate money to us right now, did you know you can gift the food bank a car or RV? You can also leave the food bank a gift of money, real estate, or other items in your will, a Beneficiary Deed, or even designate retirement IRA accounts or stock investments to the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank. Or simply leave FQFB as your beneficiary on your bank account. You can also have a Legacy Page on our website QuartzsiteFood- Bank.com. Remember to pick up your govern- ment boxes at the Western College 1st and 3rd Mondays 8am to 10. Watch for changes in their days and times on Facebook at Yuma Com- munity Food Bank.
