Moving Forward A Q&A WITH STACEY (CHAPMAN) COAD '95 AND EMMA COAD '21 A lthough Kappa Alpha has faced adversity over the past year, we have so much to look forward to. The ladies are back in the house, recruitment is in-person once again, and they're ready for all this year will bring. We spoke with our new recruitment chairman, Emma Coad '21, and her mother, Stacey Chapman Coad '95, about their feelings about the past and their thoughts on the future. Emma, how are you feeling about being the first recruitment chairman after three years of adjusting due to COVID-19, virtual recruitment, and having to use the Beta Sig house last year due to the house being destroyed by the tornado? Emma: I am kind of scared because it is a lot of pressure. Everyone knows we have a new house, and it is going to be a lot and mean a lot to everyone. It will be different though, since none of the girls have done recruitment in the house like normal. What are you looking forward to most this year? Emma and Stacey: Actually doing things at the house, like Moms Weekend. Stacey: I'm looking forward to going back through the house and experiencing it with Emma. I am so happy my girls are both going to be at K-State. When Emma went through recruitment, I remember telling her, "I don't care, you choose what you want," but at the end of the week, I got competitive in my head and really wanted her to be a Chi O. I will do the same for Keaton. Having Emma join Chi Omega in 2021 has brought back memories, and I am excited to get involved. Stacey, you were recruitment chairman and now Emma is. Explain your experience so far and how you are able to relate. Stacey: I think about when I was recruitment chairman. I had a full-on panic attack and had to go to the ER because we got a fine. Emma is super chill and going to do great. How did you feel watching your daughter experience the sorority through COVID, a Tornado, and then the water leak? Stacey: Devastated for them, but on the other hand, they didn't know any different. Having to help them through COVID and then two times having to help them find places to live because they could not live in the house was hard. They rallied and made the best of it.
