Lauren Santo Domingo '95 on Her Fashion Journey ENTRE NOUS 2 W hile it has been so special to see members excelling in their internships, study abroad programs, and a variety of ventures while on their summer break, the women of California Gamma are overjoyed to be back at school and surrounded by sisters for an exciting fall semester. Annika Coleman '21, former Vice President Member Experience, spent her summer studying Balkan history and folk medicine through the USC School of Pharmacy. While abroad, Annika learned about the healing properties of natural remedies by exploring local farms and markets in Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania. Our Arrowspike volleyball tournament will take place on September 29 at the Sigma Chi courts. We are proud and grateful to announce that every fraternity will be participating this year! Our Vice President of Community Relations, Caroline Gaughan '22, shared a heartfelt message to members about the new year and events: "Each new school year brings with it so many opportunities, challenges, and adventures, and I know that I will have the Pi Phi community to support me through it all. I cannot wait to have a year-long sleepover now that I will be living in the chapter house. I cannot wait for Chef Walter's yummy cooking and having the funniest and deepest conversations at the dinner table. I cannot wait for the game days, nights out, and nights in with my Pi Phi sisters. We have so many exciting things planned this fall. I look forward to starting Champions Are Readers (CAR) again, where we read to the students at the local elementary school, and our big philanthropy volleyball tournament, Arrowspike. Most importantly, I'm looking forward to creating the stories I'll tell my kids about someday." Well said, Caroline. Here's to another great Pi Phi year at USC! Pi Phi Love, Lily Redmond '22 Chapter President cagammacp@gmail.com W hen Lauren Santo Domingo '95 first joined California Gamma, she found a sense of belonging in the sisterhood that elevated her college experience. From Pi Beta Phi to Vogue to Moda Operandi, Lauren learned how to succeed through collaborative efforts. nding Her Place "Pi Beta Phi certainly gave me such pride and confidence in navigating my years in college," Lauren said. Looking back on her time as a collegian, Lauren appreciates the fond memories and lifelong connections she made with sisters. To this day, Lauren remains close with many sisters and enjoys staying connected in person or through social media. Lauren even credits the Pi Phi experience for helping her prepare for an editorial role at Vogue. Tackling it in Her Own Time "Vogue was a largely female office, and because of my experience at Pi Phi, I really knew how to collaborate and cooperate with other young women," Lauren explained. Though Lauren eventually left Vogue for other career endeavors, her father's wisdom has stuck with her since one particular phone call. "Life is a marathon, not a sprint," he told Lauren, encouraging her to slow down and look beyond her personal timeline. "I was married at 31, had my first child at 35, and started my business at 36," Lauren shared, acknowledging the time still ahead of her. "I still feel I have my whole life ahead of me and more than enough time to accomplish all the things I still want to achieve." Advancing Women in Fashion Utilizing her industry resources, Lauren founded online luxury retailer Moda Operandi to connect women in fashion on a global scale. Since 2011, Lauren's company has done more than simply give other young women the chance to work within the industry—she is incredibly proud to see women venture beyond Moda to further their careers or start their own businesses. "I wanted everyone to experience the beauty and creativity that went down the runway every season. I created a shopping environment that mirrored the way Vogue editors would shop, and it has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime." Wking with Tiffany Beyond Moda Operandi, Lauren was recently named creative director of the home collection for Tiffany and Co. Lauren always celebrated life milestones with a Tiffany box, and she is proud to bring new life to a division of the company that holds a special place in her heart. "I have a deep familiarity and appreciation for the Tiffany heritage. Helping to revive its history as well as create newness in the category has been a fun project, and it feels so natural to me." roughout the marathon of life, Lauren has Pi Phi to thank for her foundation of sisterhood and self-confidence. "When I look back, I really only remember the good things, and they are among my fondest and dearest memories." You can connect with Lauren at lsd@modaoperandi.com.
