Tickets may be purchased online. e Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll, 203 Maple Hill Drive SE, is October 15 (October 22 rain date) from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. 6 | r e d f c u.o r g Some things just go together: fall, candy apples, Halloween, and the Ghost Walk and Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll. e tour and stroll are presented by the Huntsville Pilgrimage Association, an organization that helps restore monuments in the cemetery. Van Brown, a Huntsville native, has served on the Pilgrimage Association Board for 15 years and enjoys participating in both events. He often dresses in character to give context to the history being shared. He has appeared as Lily Flag, a Jersey cow and local 1892 celebrity. Lily Flag is famous for making a record 1,047 pounds of butter. In addition to Brown, there are usually 60 to 85 characters in period costumes on the stroll, entertaining and sharing stories about their characters, who may be among the famous or infamous in the cemetery. e cemetery, established in 1822, is the oldest and largest in Huntsville, covering almost 100 acres, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. e stroll is not designed to frighten, even though it's located in a cemetery, and it is suitable for all ages. As Brown says, "We're all creating history. It's up to us to present history in its best light." Ghost Walk participants travel through the Twickenham, Old Town, and Downtown areas. In addition to spectacular architecture, you'll learn the history of the area and legends surrounding various landmarks, which may send chills down your spine.
