Felicia Riner started volunteering with the Tennessee chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America because the disease significantly impacted her life. Huntington's disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. Both of her sons are living with the disease. Despite her family's battle with Huntington's, Felicia is "always so kind and a breath of fresh air whenever she comes into the branch,'' said Redstone's Fayetteville Branch Manager Erica Smith. Finding the positive in any situation is Felicia's superpower, she says. It's power that comes from prayer. Her community is one of those positive gifts. "Community is people sharing, caring, and supporting one another. We are so blessed here in Lincoln County to have that kind of community,'' said Felicia. "I was born here, never left, and have no plans to.'' In addition to her work with the Huntington's organization, she volunteers at the Lincoln County Community Development Center. It provides services for individuals with disabilities and their families. Her "paid" job is as a teacher at Lincoln County High School. At both groups, she is responsible for helping to raise money and awareness. e Lincoln County Community Development Center's biggest fundraiser is coming up on Dec. 2. Breakfast with Santa is a day filled with local choirs, fun, food, games, and of course, Santa. "Our community is so good to support us in all these efforts.'' FELICIA RINER The Gift of Community
