His declaration to fellow believers is that God, through Jesus Christ, has freely given to all who believe a wondrous salvation. Not only has he given us the promise of heaven and eternal life, but he has also promised us power to live an abundant earthly life. It is sad, but too many Christians live under the bondage and pressure of a world that is ruled by Satan. Therefore, forfeiting the blessings of God. Peter explains that the Christian life is to be one characterized by advancement and not defeat. As we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we will begin to be transformed into the image of Christ rather than being conformed to the world. He encourages us, as God's children, to apply diligence to our walk of faith. He offers a list of graces which are descriptive of a life yielded to the Holy Spirit. They are virtue, knowledge, temperance (self-control), patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity (love). Another word for virtue is excellency of purpose. We must add to our faith the objective of living a Christ- like life. Every person born into this world has been divinely designed to bring glory to God. It is when we are living in agreement with this purpose that life is most fulfi lling. True satisfaction does not come from gaining the things of this life, but it originates within our soul. A Christ- centered heart will lead to an excellent life with real meaning and love for others.
