3 Pi Kappa Alpha www.texaspike.com Graduate Spotlight: Davis O'Brien '19 Pike Officer, Silver Spur and Finance Grad Joins Citi Dallas Global Wealth Management Team D avis O'Brien '19 graduated from The 40 Acres in May with a BBA in finance, investment management and banking, along with a certificate in wealth management. He was a very active Pike and UT student with roots in education excellence, athletics and leadership going back to his days at Frisco's Liberty High School. There, he captained the basketball team, played baseball, was a producer on the high school's sports broadcast crew and was secretary of the National Honor Society. Davis was part of the fall 2019 Beta Mu pledge class—the smallest in recent times with just 19 men. "It was the year the old Pike house had just been torn down, and some believed a house was necessary for the full four-year fraternity experience," he said. "But during rush, the Pike upperclassmen were great guys, and along with a well-rounded group of pledge brothers, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I believe you are the sum of the people you surround yourself with, and my pledge brothers are all very goal-oriented and intelligent individuals, which is what I was looking for." Davis laughs looking back, noting, "After seeing the new house, as well as being the first group to enjoy it the following year, it was certainly worth the wait!" After serving as pledge class secretary, Davis went on to hold several other posts in Beta Mu, helping the chapter persevere during the pandemic challenges of 2020 and 2021. "As a sophomore, I was a new member educator, and my junior year, I served as one of the chapter's co-social chairmen. That required smaller, innovative events during COVID-19, but we maintained a strong brotherhood." In addition to Pike leadership roles, Davis was a Silver Spur and active in the McCombs School's Leadership Program, the McCombs Wealth Management student organization and the UT Sports Management Association. Davis was born in Virginia and moved with his family to Plano at age 3. Davis's parents, Shawn and Melanie, raised him and a younger sister, Delaney, in the same house they occupy today. Reflecting on his Pike experience, Davis said, "There are a lot of great memories that come to mind, but the most consistent one, as simple as it sounds, is just grabbing lunch with my pledge class the day after an event. Some of the most fun I had was just talking and laughing with them, and that is the thing I'll miss the most. Being in such a small and tight-knit pledge class, it is hard to imagine not staying in touch with every single one of those guys." Davis's advice for today's Pikes is to experience Austin and be active on campus. "The campus and West campus neighborhood have plenty of fun things to offer, but Austin is a great city with a lot to experience. It is also important to network with students in other groups and join other organizations. The most successful people I knew at UT were ones who went out of their way to get to know as many people as possible." Davis is now living in Dallas and recently began work for Citi as a Private Banking Analyst in the firm's Dallas office. Davis and his longtime girlfriend, Andrea Chladny, who attended Texas A&M, celebrated their fifth year of dating in August.
