WHY SHOULD WE INVEST IN A SAFE, CLEAN, AND AT TRACTIVE HOME FOR OUR BROTHERS? "The DKE house provided the hub of the wheel for your entire college experience. The house provides the foundation to establish everlasting f riendships with the other members in the house. Your college experience sets the trajectory for your life. When I think back, I realize our house was my only constant in college. Your class location changed each semester, your off-campus housing changed each year, but our house always stayed the same. These renovations are not just for the cosmetics of the house, these renovations are to provide the current members the home base to positively affect the trajectory of their life." –Hinton Howell '96, House Corporation President College students spend 70% of their time within their living environment (Brandon, Hirt, and Cameron, 2008). Non-resident members also need a place to spend time with the chapter, building the relationships we all remember and treasure. Additional research confirms the most important decisions made by a new student when they arrive on campus are the organizations they join and their living environment (Reynolds, 2007). More than 80% of college students deal with anxiety, and more than 60% also feel socially isolated/lonely and depressed (JED Foundation, 2020). Greek-affiliated students report higher positive mental health scores and lower levels of depression and anxiety (Biddix, Assalone, and Grace, 2020). Greek members show greater overall involvement and engagement on campus, in student organizations, and in the classroom. They report stronger learning gains and satisfaction with the college experience (Pike, 2020).
