It's okay to put your arm around a kid and say, 'Man, you did a good job.' It's okay to tell them, 'Hey, you gotta tighten up and run to the ball.' en when he runs to the ball, 'Man, that's exactly what we want you to do.' ey appreciate that. … ey'll run through the wall once they know you care." For the Razorbacks to contend, they must contend with an extremely difficult schedule. ough not ranked as the hardest in the country as many of theirs have in recent years, Arkansas has a stretch of six games in a seven-week span that features only one home game against Mississippi State surrounded by road games at LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama and Florida, plus a neutral site game versus Texas A&M. No other team has a stretch of that magnitude. Also, the ability to stay in contention comes with a couple of big caveats. It seems imperative Jefferson must stay healthy, as the Razorbacks struggled mightily in the games he did not start or played at less than 100% last season. Also, the pass defense cannot be as porous, even as the Hogs posted a school record sack total of 42. Arkansas finished fih in 2022, three games behind co-leaders LSU and Alabama and ahead of Auburn and Texas A&M. e Hogs lost four games by three points or less, including to conference foes Texas A&M, LSU and Missouri, and had problems in short-yardage and goal- to-go situations in all those games and others. Arkansas went to work in the offseason trying to make improvements on those situational struggles with the hopes it would have an impact in tight games and improve their bottom line. Pittman will enter his fourth year with a 19-17 record and a confidence in his current club. "Yes, I really like this team," Pittman said. "I like the looks of the team. We went down there and ran sprints at the end of scrimmage [on Aug. 12] and there wasn't any heads down and 'Oh this, that and the other.' ey do what we ask them to do because they believe that everything we do is for them and for their success. And that's what we're trying to do." e Razorbacks have vastly different levels of experience returning on each corps of their offense, with Jefferson, DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME Sept. 2 Western Carolina^ 3 p.m. Sept. 9 Kent State 3 p.m. Sept. 16 BYU 6:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at LSU* TBD Sept. 30 vs. Texas A&M*# TBD Oct. 7 at Ole Miss* TBD Oct. 14 at Alabama* TBD Oct. 21 Mississippi State* TBD Nov. 4 at Florida* TBD Nov. 11 Auburn* TBD Nov. 18 Florida Int TBD Nov. 24 Missouri*% 3 p.m. ^ — at War Memorial Stadium, Little Rock # — at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas % — Game played on Friday * — SEC game 2023 ARKANSAS FOOTBALL SCHEDULE Preview n Continued from Page 12 Jaedon Wilson | Arkansas Wide Receiver File Photo Zach Williams Arkansas Defensive Lineman File Photo
