Clearing the clutter out of your backpack
at the end of each day not only lightens
your load, it helps you stay on top
of assignments.
A good breakfast helps you stay
energized and focused at school. A bowl
of oatmeal or a breakfast burrito keeps
your brain running at full speed
until lunchtime.
You know the routine. You'll do your homework later … after a
snack … after soccer practice … after a TV show. Before you
know it, you're stressed and scrambling to finish it before bedtime.
Do your homework first thing and the rest of the day is yours!
Starting the day rushing to get to class
makes it hard to concentrate once
you're there. Leave home a few
minutes early and start the day right.
Sometimes your teacher
might be moving through
a new lesson faster than
you can understand it.
Don't be afraid to raise
your hand and ask to go
through it again.
(Chances are,
someone else in
class has the
same question but is
too chicken to ask!)
Your body and brain
need some downtime
to recharge—about
10 hours of sleep
for kids ages
7 to 12 every night.
Make each morning
much easier by laying
out your clothes the
night before.
Spend lots of
time doing
non-electronic
things. Read,
solve puzzles or
look for shapes in the clouds.
These things use parts of the
brain that electronics do not.
Exercise keeps
blood flowing to
your brain. Most
kids don't get
nearly enough
daily exercise.
Show your schoolwork to a
parent each evening so they
know how you're doing in
school. They'll be able to
see when you need extra
help, too.

Ask a parent
how they go
about organizing
their day.
Ready to make this your
best school year ever?
Just follow these simple
steps and you'll set
yourself up for better
grades, better health and
more free time, too!
