It was chosen for its majestic beauty, great strength, long life, and because it is native to North America. The bald eagle can be found on the Great Seal of the United States, on the country's money and in many images of patriotism. This week, look around you and see how many times you see pictures of a bald eagle. Have you ever been told you have eagle eyes? If so, that is a compliment. Eagles can see much better than humans. They have to be able to spot a fish or a small animal from hundreds of feet in the air. The Great Seal can be found on the back of a dollar bill. The back of a quarter Connect the dots. Then color this bald eagle. A bald eagle's long, broad wings make them good at soaring through the air. On long flights, eagles rarely flap their wings. Instead, they use thermal updrafts. Thermal updrafts are currents of warm air that rise up from the ground. Eagles save energy by flying high in a thermal updraft and then gliding down to catch the next one. In September 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the United States Constitution. Every year, a day in September is recognized as the day to celebrate the importance of the Constitution. This year it's on September 17.
