W H AT D K E M E A N S T O M E The Importance of Scholarships for Undergraduates I did not know a single person at Colgate when I arrived for freshman orientation from Texas. As a member of the swim team, I spent a lot of time with that crew, but DKE broadened my network and introduced me to an entirely different cross-section of guys that I will always consider brothers. Without a doubt, the highlight of my college experience was senior year, being an officer of DKE and moving back into the LPM after DKE was reinstated. We took a great class that year and had more fun than I knew was possible. It cost me a few points off my GPA but was worth it." Andrew Wright '04 "Being a part of DKE has allowed me to form countless meaningful relationships and memories with the 162nd class and the classes before mine (159th-161st). This group of brothers has had a profound impact on my life and has helped me grow into the person that I am today. I'm very grateful to have shared my college experience with them, and I'm already looking forward to the next time we can all get together." Kobi Grant '25 "DKE was such a huge part of my college experience because of the close- knit bonds I built with such a wide range of awesome people. From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I developed friendships with future alumni DKEs across class years and with many that had already graduated. We supported each other through ups and downs and, most importantly, had a ton of fun doing it. To this day, I look back at my years on campus and think most fondly about my DKE brothers." Michael Miller '12 "At the end of my senior year, I was unable to make my last payment to Colgate on time. The school told me that if I couldn't find the money, I couldn't graduate. Additionally, I was denied two DKE scholarships on the technicality that I wasn't a hockey player. I was already working multiple jobs and my parents were not able to assist. The idea of borrowing money from friends or family was something I couldn't stomach. I still don't know how he found out, but a DKE alumnus randomly contacted me and offered to help. He wrote a check to Colgate on my behalf and saved the day. Had there been some sort of general scholarship fund, it would have made a huge difference in my Colgate, as well as my DKE, experience."
