8 www.DesertMessenger.com August 16, 2023 The Salvation Army happenings We are now on vacation ….. No shopping days; Tuesday August 15, Wednesday August 16, and Thurs- day August 17th. The following week we will be closed August 22, 23, and 24. We will resume our normal shopping schedule on Tuesday, August 29th. The Ser- vice Center is always available with a phone call for urgent assistance. Call my cell phone, 360-921-7571. Hopefully these record-break- ing temperatures and humidity we have been experiencing will lessen when we reopen. We will continue to offer a bottle of water with an electrolyte packet attached on days over 100 degrees. We do have Heat Relief Packets with items that were purchased from a grant we received for Quartzsite and Ehrenberg first responders and our in-need resi- dents provided by Arizona Public Service (APS.) If you know or see folks out and about, please let me know. I can provide a bag of goodies for them. Please take care of each other and always PLEASE check on your neighbors as well. Who will be making tee-shirts that we survived the summer of 2023??? PLEASE PLEASE…..DO NOT leave donations out front when we are closed. Please remember: Dona- tions WHEN WE ARE OPEN. Last month man in a small white car left a very large box with nice items on the bench out front. Someone on a bike "thought they were "free", so they "said," and took the items. I understand our donation times are limited to when we are open, but with a phone call we can make ar- rangements for you. Our hard-work- ing volunteers appreciate your com- pliance and understanding. A big thank you to an at-home vol- unteer Jan, that has organized our many CD's. Many very nice compli- ments are awarded to her. Thanks so much. We offer our sincerest condolences to the James Wilkins family and friends. Years past volunteer, "Big Jim" had a heart of gold and so loved the Salvation Army. He was many years our cashier and truck driver. May you rest in peace. JAMES WILKINS 1957-2023. Please understand that our building has no windows, no air exchange ventilation, our aisles are tight, and we have many senior volunteers with health concerns. We are ask- ing for personal space of six feet (camel length) and recommending a face covering- which we provide, for both us and our amazing shoppers. We appreciate your understanding. "You don't always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go, and see what happens." ~ Mandy Hale. Romans Titus 3:1-8 (NASB95) [1] Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, [2] to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing every consideration for all men. [3] For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. [4] But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, [5] He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, [6] whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior. [7] so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. [8] This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed in God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men.
