In general, they are a very happy group of people who have chosen to retire here or are raising a family in a safer, lower cost of liv- ing small town environment. Life is good here. But they need a little extra help sometimes. That is what the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank does. We supply some groceries to give them that hand-up they need to live a healthy lifestyle. Most people in this town will not starve. Still, they must decide to pay the rent/mortgage, electricity, doctor/medicine, fi x the car, or buy groceries. Not to mention every- thing their children need. We try to make that more manage- able, and so can you with a donation to us. Yes, I am asking for dona- tions. You can make a one-time or monthly contribution. Your donation makes a difference. We are privately owned nonprofi t and must raise all the funds we need to operate. When donating to FQFB, you not only receive that good feel- ing of helping the community, you can write us off on your taxes as we are a 501c3 nonprofi t. Do you work and owe Arizona tax- es? You can donate that money to the food bank instead of paying the state with the AZ Tax Credit. That is not a tax write-off but a credit on your actual Arizona taxes that you owe. Up to $800 off your Arizona state taxes that you do not have to pay. Dollar for dollar of your dona- tions goes to us, and it is still an IRS write-off. If you cannot donate money to us right now, did you know you can gift the food bank a car or RV? You can also leave the food bank a gift of money, real estate, or other items in your will, a Benefi ciary Deed, or even designate retirement IRA ac- counts or stock investments to the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank (FQFB). You can also have a Legacy Page on our website, www.Quartz- siteFoodBank.com. Don't forget to pick up your gov- ernment boxes at Arizona Western College (AWC) the 1st & 3rd Mon- days 8am-10am. CLUTCHES PRIMARY & SECONDARY August 3, 2023- The Town of Quartzsite notifi ed the public via Facebook that the Town "has received notice from the Bureau of Land Man- agement that the brush pile located behind the Wastewater Treatment Plant is closed effective immediately. All yard debris will need to be taken to the La Paz County Landfi ll." During the August 8th Council Meeting, Quartzsite Town Manager Jim Ferguson explained, "We sent out a message that we're going to have to close the burn pile. This was not something the town decided, it was something we needed to do. We were informed by BLM that they own the land. We have a lease. But we don't have a right to use it ways that are contrary to, in their opinion, to do what we were approved for. We received notice that we are in fact trespassing. They would consider it a friendly trespass if we closed it right away and return it to its normal stage. They literally want to have pic- tures of us cleaning it up, where we are taking it, and to put it back to a reasonable natural state. The Town's not giving up on the issue. We are just going to comply with the current de- mand that we vacate that area and no longer use it in that manner. There's a process that we can go through to use BLM properties for other public purposes. Does not necessarily mean that they will approve it, but it will not happen overnight. Meanwhile the Town will do everything that we can to deal with this. We don't want people out there just dumping this all over the place. The only sugges- tion we have right now is to take it to the landfi ll. We don't want them to dump it elsewhere around the town, so we're going to look at what we can and hopefully in the next week or so and have a solution that will be ac- ceptable for all parties at least for a while, until we fi nd other properties. Ferguson concluded, "I know no one is happy with it, including us. We're not happy with it, but we are complying." Brush pile facility closed
