WebLinks celebritypipeline By Jay Bobbin "The Big D" got a big reprieve Q: I thought "The Big D" wasn't going to be on television. What happened? – Jill Hanley, via e-mail A: The reality show about divorced people seeking new romances – with their former spouses there to watch – was supposed to premiere last summer on TBS, but shortly before the scheduled debut, it was pulled as part of several programming decisions made by that network's then-just-merged parent company Warner Bros. Discovery. However, there still was a full season of the show in existence, hosted by JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers … the "Bache- lorette" alums whose pandemic-postponed wedding finally took place just before "The Big D" originally was intended to debut. USA Network expressed interest in picking up the show as a Wednesday-night companion to "Temptation Island" and made the deal, and that's why it's there now. Q: I enjoyed seeing "Fiddler on the Roof" on Turner Classic Movies on Father's Day. Didn't I see that its star, Topol, passed away recently? – Richard Bell, Tacoima, Wash. A: Sadly, he did. Chaim Topol died in March in his native Tel Aviv, where he also was celebrated as a founder of Variety Israel and Jor- dan River Village, organizations benefiting children who either have special needs or deal with critical illnesses. While "Fiddler's" Tevye was Topol's most internationally recognized role, both on stage and screen (earning him Tony and Oscar nominations), the actor did much other work including the sci-fi fantasy "Flash Gordon" and the James Bond adventure "For Your Eyes Only." A playwright, screen- writer and producer as well, Topol was in demand as a voice talent as well … dubbing the voices of characters in foreign versions of films that originally were made in the English language. Disney's animated "The Jungle Book" and the first two "Harry Potter" movies are among examples of such jobs that he did. After Topol's death, it was revealed that he had been involved in Mossad espionage missions, with his fame serving as a distraction for those who didn't notice others' spying activities.
