BACK IN SHAPE Page 2 Beta Rays T he spring semester started off (quite literally) with a bang: a pipe burst over winter break, completely flooding our first floor. Special thanks to our alumni board, especially Mark Kramer '80, for pulling through with assurance and other help. With everyone working together, we had the basement back together by February. More details are in the front page article. E D U C A T I O N Several brothers are advancing their education this year! • Brett Parent '19 was accepted to veterinary school at Purdue. • Matthew Millies '21 into pharmacy school at Purdue. • John "Da Beans" Roesler '20 is going for his master's degree in human resource management at Krannert. S P O R T S Even though Purdue basketball disappointed us, our intramural teams did not. We won the first seed in softball and volleyball and made it to the semi-finals in both (as well as ultimate frisbee). Our Grand Prix team almost successfully made the race this year, taking first in their sprint race before a kart failure saw them bow out of the main event. M U L B E R R Y We're back and in full swing—for both semesters for the first time in several years! This tradition, enjoyed across generations, was on a brief pause due to a lack of location. Thank you to David Gross '08 and his family for sharing some of their land to bring back this treasured tradition. If you are ever in the area, please feel free to stop by the house and connect with the active members. We love getting to know you and hear stories about the past days. Yours in Christ, Dane Reid '20 Chapter President Brothers Enjoy Repaired House and Renewed Events I t is with sorrow that we report the loss of two of our Beta Chapter brothers in recent months. Nick DiCarlo '88 passed away on December 17, 2022. Nick was a former Chapter president and a well-respected mental health professional in the Lafayette area. He is survived by his husband, Michael Johnson, and many more friends and family. Dan Stoppenhagen '81 returned home to the Lord on March 15, 2023. Dan was an accomplished civil engineer and a leader on the alumni board in the Per Aspera campaign, raising funds for the Chapter House restoration. Although not a member of Beta Chapter, any brother who has attended a national meeting of the Fraternity over the prior 50 years would have known Larry Edwards, Kansas State '55. Larry, along with our deceased brother John Hingst '46, was very instrumental in the growth and direction of our Fraternity. Larry's family has requested no flowers or gifts. Instead, they ask you to donate to the "$100K for 100 Years" sub-fund that has been established in the Beta Sigma Psi Foundation. Checks can be mailed to: Beta Sigma Psi National Office 2408 Lebanon Avenue Belleville, IL 62221 Be sure to include "$100K for 100 Years Fund" in the memo. Spring break in Grand Isle, Lousiana. Graduating seniors under the Purdue Bell Tower. In bittersweet news, we said "see you later" to several seniors this year, including Andrew Dobler '19, Dave Hamady '19, Travis Hockemeyer '19, Luke Passino '19, Collin Breischaft '20, Mitchell Gullion '20, and Bruce Senter '21.
