How to have SAFE fun exploring the great outdoors this summer.
Safe explorers know the three most common
poisonous plants:
Jeannie is
ready to
rough it, but
Josh is not.
Find at least
five things
Josh needs
to change.
Use the Safe
Explorers
Guide Book
to help you!
Find your way through the leaves without
touching any poisonous plants. Can you
circle all of the poisonous plant leaves?
There are at least 10.
Standards Link: Reading Comprehension: Students follow simple
written directions.
Safe explorers always…
Carry a whistle. Reason: If you get
lost or hurt, the sound of a whistle
carries farther than your voice.
Wear long-sleeved shirts and long
pants tucked into boots or socks
when hiking. Reason: To prevent
ticks from finding a place to bite.
Carry a plastic trash bag. Reason:
If you cut a hole for your face, it can
be worn like a poncho and keep you
warm and dry.
If you do brush
against one of
these plants,
quickly wash the
area with soap
and cool water.
Standards Link: Health:
Students understand ways to
prevent disease and speed
recovery from infection or illness.
