Sisterhood That Stands the Test of Time Sisterhood That Stands the Test of Time Elizabeth "Betty" Crow '54 on Connection, Legacy and Commitment A t 87 years old, I've maintained a relationship with Pi Phi all my life. The consistent connection feels like a miracle. I pledged and was initiated in 1954, spending three years living in the house before graduating in 1957. I am originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, but after I married, I moved to a small town. I didn't know anyone, but four fellow Pi Phi sisters reached out to me. They saw to it that I didn't miss anything and was included in the social life there. To me, they were lovely examples of what grown, mature women should be like. After I retired, an alumna reached out and asked if I'd be willing to serve on the Chapter House Corporation (CHC), so I drove to Stillwater to meet with her. I had done some genealogy research in the past and worked in libraries and with the historical society, so while I was there, I copied everything about Pi Phi from the yearbooks in the public library. I spent the next few years researching the history of Oklahoma Beta. When I retired from CHC, I took everything down to Kinko's to have made into a book. Since then, I've given copies to a number of people in the Pi Phi community. Ever since, I have remained active with Pi Phi. I was Programming Chair of the Oklahoma City Alumnae Club the year the Club won the national award for programming. In 2008, the Club named me its Panhellenic Woman of the Year, and in 2013 I was named the Evelyn Peters Kyle Award recipient for Region Four. I am active in my church and belong to lots of clubs, but I've always cherished Pi Phi and know my sisters will be there for me. Pi Phi has been part of my life for almost 70 years and has given me many of my all-time favorite memories. Because the friendships have been such a blessing, I was eager to donate to support the next generation of Pi Phis. I want the young women who live in our house to have a lovely homeāone that's modern and has all the updates necessary for their success. I was truly happy to give to an organization that has given so much to me. I am a widow of seven years currently living in Oklahoma City. I live in a community that is also home to another Pi Phi. I have been in touch with alumnae for the last 67 years from Bartlesville to Tulsa to Plano. There are four or five of us here in Oklahoma City; we take the last Monday of each month to catch up and visit. The Oklahoma City Alumnae Club has many opportunities for service as well as interesting activities. We volunteer at the local Boys and Girls Club in the after-school program. Our club hosts a fundraising event called The Gathering of Angels Luncheon, the proceeds of which support our literacy efforts. There are plenty of opportunities for even older alumnae to stay involved!
