A: We'd suspect that the ultimate determining factor for ABC was the fact that the ratings for the third (and, in the end, final) sea- son didn't improve much, despite the show having a major cast addition for it in Reba McEntire. Hiring her had to have cost a pretty penny, at a time when series expenses were and are being scrutinized more closely than ever. Had "Big Sky" gone to a fourth year, the network probably would have wanted or needed a "name" of the same caliber (McEntire wasn't ex- pected to return) and whether the cost would be worth the return would have to have been part of that conversation. It likely was an easier decision to cancel the series rather than continue it when its ratings potential apparently had reached a plateau. Q: Is "NCIS: Los Angeles" over for good, or is there a chance that it will come back? — Shawn Jefferies, via e-mail A: With such recent "un-cancellations" as those of "Criminal Minds" and "S.W.A.T.," we know more than ever to never say "never" about such things. There has been some talk already about the "NCIS: Los Angeles" team possibly getting back together down the road for a project on Paramount+ if not elsewhere, and a thread was left hanging in the recent CBS series finale that would facilitate that, but nothing is definite about a full revival. However, LL Cool J will be reprising his Sam Hanna role as a recurring guest star on "NCIS: Hawai'i" next season.
