Continuing the Success of Gamma Theta George Stuart '68 Is Involved in the Campaign to Provide for Future Brothers GATOR SIG Summer 2023 Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Florida Celebrating 100 Years, Building for 100 More THE B rothers, we have an exciting update! We recently hired a financial consultant, Jennifer Henson, to assist us with the Celebrating 100 Years - Building 100 More capital campaign. Jennifer specializes in assisting fraternity and sorority chapters with the financial modeling of building projects to ensure fiscal success and solvency for years to come. Now that we have her assistance, realizing our new chapter home relies on one final piece: YOU! We now have the best team to take on this project with Jennifer; our Gainesville contractor, Scorpio; and our architectural firm, TreanorHL. at team, however, needs the continued support of you, our alumni, to ensure this new home is realized. We thank the 228 brothers who have honored their Gamma eta experience by collectively contributing more than $2.4 million toward the campaign (so far!). To start construction, however, we need the involvement of all brothers. ere are over 2,000 members in our fraternity and, right now, only around 11% have joined our efforts. If you have not yet made a gi, now is the time to do so! If we can reach $4 million by early next spring, we can begin construction in time for a fall 2025 completion (following a typical year-and-a-half timeline for college buildings). Starting construction later would hinder our financial position while disadvantaging our undergraduate brothers in their recruitment efforts given the competition around campus. Brothers, the ability to reach our $4 million target relies upon your involvement. Make your gi today by visiting ufsigmachi.causevox.com and help us secure a strong future for Sigma Chi at the University of Florida! In Hoc, I n the summer of 1964, right before George Stuart '68 headed off to the University of Florida, he fell ill and was hospitalized. During his stay, a Sigma Chi he had known from high school came to visit him. at was George's first introduction to the fraternity. George didn't know much about fraternity and sorority life, but he appreciated the fellowship of the men of Sigma Chi and knew he would be comfortable there. He admired the diversity of Gamma eta; from athletes to school leaders to scholars, it was an organization he wanted to be affiliated with. George valued the opportunity to serve as consul, as it was an important learning experience that served him well in his life and career. "Sigma Chi at Florida was a strong chapter when I was there in the '60s. It was one of the top fraternities on campus, and it's stayed that way," George said. Over the years, George was not as involved in the fraternity, but through his career in politics and business, he networked with his brothers. Around five years ago, he and a group of brothers from the '60s had a Christmas dinner meeting. e late Frank Saier '68, a longtime member of the house corporation, discussed the condition of the house and the issues the chapter was facing in terms of remodeling and expanding. is inspired the brothers to head up to Gainesville to get acquainted with the situation and see if they could make a difference. With the experience of fundraising firm Pennington & Company and George's review of their recommendations, Sigma Chi agreed to proceed with the Celebrating 100 Years - Building 100 More capital campaign. George is proud of the success of the campaign over the past few years, especially since it has continued through COVID-19, inflation, and supply chain issues. (Continued on page 3) "I was a beneficiary of the people who came before me who let me be in a first-class house. I want to provide that same thing to brothers in the next generation and the generation after that."
