The Campaign for Mu Mu FOR NORTH HIGH B rothers, we are well on our way to building a strong future for Sigma Chi at WVU! 700 N. High is already coming together, and we're excited about upcoming projects as we work toward creating a home our collegians deserve. As we shared in the spring issue of The Mu Muse, we have replaced the roof, installed new windows and dormers on the third floor, removed the basement ceiling tiles, and readied the former housemother's suite for expansion of the chapter room and bathrooms. Since our last update, we have also replaced all the windows on the second floor. WHAT'S NEXT?! It will be a busy summer at the chapter house as we get ready to install a new HVAC system. After requests for proposals from four companies, and with the concurrence of the Building Committee, a contract has been signed, a deposit paid, and the equipment ordered for the new HVAC. At the recommendation of electricians and the power company, the first step is to install a three-phase alternating current power to the chapter house. It is anticipated that by the end of August, the house will have a state-of-the-art Variable Refrigerant Flow HVAC system, consisting of outdoor units connected to multiple indoor units via refrigerant piping to provide cooling and heating to individual zones. As more progress is made on the house, we are collaborating with stakeholders about the next steps. We have begun meeting with the contractors about the front façade. Architectural renderings are being refined in case we are able to move forward with this key project sooner. In addition, preliminary discussions continue with the city engineer and the utility board regarding stormwater lines, building permits, etc., in case fundraising allows us to move more quickly than originally planned. Through these much-needed projects, we are creating a safe, competitive environment where our brothers can thrive and develop as men and leaders. We're creating a house you can be proud of. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Remember, none of this would be possible without the dedication of our alumni. We deeply appreciate the 179 brothers who have already committed over $1.4 million toward our $2 million goal. If you have not yet joined your brothers on the donor list, now is the time to do so. This campaign is the perfect opportunity to give in honor or memory of a loved one, or to make a class gift with your brothers. Don't miss your chance to be a part of this exciting time in Mu Mu Chapter history! Make your five-year pledge today! If you have already contributed—thank you! Your gift has been put to great use as we make progress on this new chapter at Mu Mu. To help us rally more brothers to support the effort, we encourage you to use our online giving site (scan the QR code below) to find a brother you know who has not yet joined us in giving and share with him the reasons why you have! Remind him of what it means to be a brother of Sigma Chi and how important alumni are to our Mu Mu bond. We, of course, also welcome any additional donations or early pledge payments you may be able to make, as our cash flow can impact how we navigate construction. However you choose to help, we are grateful for your support. Thank you for investing in the future of Mu Mu! Your dedication and diligence does not unnoticed. W hen Paul Ferrell '84 was looking for a fraternity to join at WVU, he found that Sigma Chi had the nicest house with the most members and was competitive in athletics and scholastics. Mu Mu Chapter is where he knew he could associate with men with similar goals, desires, and expectations. Joining Sigma Chi was a life-changing decision that has allowed Paul to make lifelong friendships and take advantage of different opportunities. Having been expected to start working at an early age, he shared, "Becoming a Sigma Chi allowed me to develop social skills while still having a good work ethic to pursue my academic goals." He believes the best years of his life were spent in Morgantown as a finance and law student and has fond memories of his time in Mu Mu Chapter, including events with the sororities and game days. Paul is also a firm believer that you get out of something by what you put into it, which is why he is proud to support For 700 North High: The Campaign for Mu Mu.
