INDIANA ZETA ACTIVITY New Members, Chapter Ambitions, and More W e are glad to welcome our 22 new members to Indiana Zeta. They did fantastic throughout their Phikeia Education period at the beginning of this semester and are ready to help the Chapter prosper and grow even further. Our new brothers are a great group of guys who represent a variety of different varsity sports and a diverse range of interests. CHAPTER ACTIVITIES Indiana Zeta is very excited about the upcoming Little 500. We have four members riding this year: Hudson Alden '25, Sam Cummins '25, Aidan Woodley '25, and Jim McMurray '26 will be competing on behalf of the Chapter. Indiana Zeta is also becoming an Iron Phi Chapter! The Iron Phi program challenges Phi Delta Theta brothers to push themselves mentally and physically for a greater cause. To become certified, each competitor must raise at least $1,000 while completing a specific athletic challenge to honor late Brother Lou Gehrig, New York Delta and raise money for the Live Like Lou Foundation. In addition to individual fundraising, each Chapter has the incentive to raise $10,000 during the academic year. The brothers of Indiana Zeta have decided to pursue that philanthropic goal with a strong start at $5,000, but we are reaching out to any friends, family, or alumni who can help. Welcome, New Members As I look back over these first 80 years, I'm struck by the fact that we're called upon to make crucial-to-life decisions (if and where to pursue higher education, who to hang and live with, what career to follow, and who to love and marry) all by the time we're in our early twenties. In my case, I selected DePauw, the Phi Delts selected me, I chose public education, and Barb and I selected one another. By my assessment, I've gone four for four! Significant credit for choosing and selecting wisely and successfully is due to DePauw and Phi Delta Theta. YITB, Steve Tegarden '64 srtegarden@gmail.com (317) 828-8464 Brothers Joey Thome '24, Hudson Alden '25, Alex Backhaus '25, Sam Cummins '25, and Parker Passerelli '25 are each taking on an athletic challenge for a good cause. Read more on page 4 about Reid Johnson '24 completing his Iron Phi challenge! GOING BEYOND DEPAUW This semester, we have seen some members go abroad to explore the rest of the world. We have three members, Jack Drake '23, Brooks Coats '24, and JD Sullivan '24 all studying in Ireland. We had one senior, Matt Devens '23, graduate at the end of the fall semester. Matt is now spending this time in South Africa before coming back to walk the stage with the rest of his class on graduation day. While we are excited for the future, we can't help feeling sentimental as our senior class finishes their final weeks before becoming alumni. Yours in the Bond, Skip Locke '22 This picture of Steve appeared in the 1963 Phi Delt recruitment brochure published during his term as president.
