SPRING CHAPTER GOALS T hroughout his undergraduate Delt years, Michael Bonacum '10 found inspiration from the alumni on the House Corporation. "The Shelter has always been 'home' to me, so I was instantly drawn to giving back." Mike joined the board soon after graduating, where he continued the early capital work that began during his chapter presidency. Mike served as chairman of the 125th anniversary planning committee in 2015, and when the Our Home, Our Legacy campaign launched, he became one of the younger alumni board members. Both cemented Mike's excitement for the future of Beta Omicron, so he happily accepted his new role as House Corporation president. A LIFELONG NETWORK As undergraduates, Mike and his brothers had a "work hard, play hard" dynamic. They knew how to buckle down for academic and chapter duties, but Delt also offered a chance to relax and enjoy the social side of college. Throughout college (and especially his presidency), Mike appreciated the brothers' ability to run the Shelter like clockwork. His fondest memories come from Delt-focused events like orientation, recruitment, and senior week. "We got to come together and focus on one thing, having fun along the way." Delt also gave Mike a network of lifelong friends, which he could reach out to anytime he moved for work. He had a Delt roommate each of his seven years in Boston, including two years in an apartment with Drew Reilly '12 and Eric Stucker '13. "Whether through trash talking on fantasy football chats, officiating two Delts' weddings, being Drew Reilly's best man, going on yearly vacations, or just meeting up with someone for dinner when I travel to a new city, I've always had the brotherhood to help cheer me up and keep me grounded." Mike's Delt volunteer efforts aren't limited to Beta Omicron! Shortly after graduating, he became advisor to the emerging Delt colony at Boston University. He has also served as the Delta Tau Delta eastern division treasurer and as lead advisor for the Iota Psi chapter at Northeastern. Working beyond his own chapter reinforced Mike's passion for the Delt brotherhood and its bonds across the country and across generations. MAKING A GREAT CHAPTER EVEN BETTER As House Corporation president, Mike looks forward to connecting with even more alumni to strengthen Beta Omicron. "Our involvement is more important than ever, given the investments we are making in the Shelter," he said. "The more alumni support we have for the men directly (not just financially), the more we can help the brotherhood flourish along with our renovated facility. Volunteering can easily be done via Zoom, so distance should not be a barrier to getting involved!" From One Presidency to Another Michael Bonacum '10 Excited to Continue Serving Delt MIKE'S GOALS FOR BETA OMICRON 1. Complete the capital improvements identified in the Facility Master Plan. Thank you to ALL our generous donors, and to Sonny Sonnenstein '90 for leading this tremendous effort. Now it's time to put those dollars to work and give a world-class brotherhood a world-class facility. I'm working closely with Cornell to make this a reality, and we expect to see major progress over the next two summers. 2. Support our undergraduates, both by improving the facility and improving our alumni support network. This will also help grow the next generation of alumni leaders. 3. Continue to support our alumni. I'm committed to making sure our annual Homecoming celebration remains second to none—especially for our massive 135th anniversary and Shelter rededication in 2025! I also want to improve the quality and quantity of alumni engagement events, be it by sponsoring local meetups, hosting more virtual engagement opportunities, or expanding our Thanksgiving hockey night in NYC to a few other big-ticket gatherings. Have ideas? Willing to organize events? Send them my way. Mike has been with GE for 12 years, currently splitting time between Cincinnati and Washington, D.C., as he transitions to a business development role. He would love to hear from brothers in either area (or any with career advice on moving from technical to business work) and encourages alumni to connect whenever they travel or move to a new place. "Delt doesn't end when you leave Cornell, and the more you stay in touch, the more it has to offer us all."
