Dome Rock Rd., Quartzsite (Formerly Don's Rocks) By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear Quartzsite, AZ- The Town of Quartzsite has been awarded a Heritage Local, Regional, State Parks (LRSP) grant by the Arizona State Parks Board in the amount of $485,654. This is the match amount for a second application to the fed- eral Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for the same amount. This application has been reviewed by the National Park Service (NPS) regional offi ce and AZ State Parks has submitted the draft agreement for signature. The Quartzsite Town Park Im- provement Project proposes to upgrade and make signifi cant im- provements to the Town Park. Starting with a new 2,500 sq. ft. recirculating splash pad and rest- room, the Improvement Project will enhance existing park facilities with perimeter fencing, rubberized mulch, tables, bench seating, and shade structures. Safety and se- curity of two parking areas will be improved by the installation of new LED parking lot lighting and an RV host site. While the LWCF application was being processed, the Town contract- ed with Rick Engineering to conduct the project design. The design team has held two planning sessions with a presentation to Council to obtain public input to ascertain which op- tions will best meet community ex- pectations for a suitable splash pad in the park. During the May 25, 2023 regular meeting of Quartzsite Town Council, Town Council approved authoriz- ing the Project Sponsor Agreement between the Arizona State Parks Board and the Town of Quartzsite for the Quartzsite Town Improve- ment/Splash Pad Project. Cliff O'Neill announced, "We are fi nally here." He explained it has the Town initially applied for this grant last spring. It was approved more than 6 months ago. The other part of this grant is a federal grant. Both grants totaled $971,308.00. O'Neill stated, "There will be no town funds used for the project. It is 100% covered." In addition to the splash pad, there will be additional parking lot lighting installed by the dance slab, an RV space installed by the restroom, parking lot lighting at the handicap space, new lighting, and fencing around the basketball court. He explained exact measure- ments may change and if so they will come back to council with the updated design. According to the notes provided by the engineer, the splash pad will be 2,500 sq. ft with gray concrete with broom fi nish, multi-sail shade struc- ture to cover the splash pad and seating areas. The restroom building will have two unisex bathrooms, pool equipment/utility room, exterior chem- ical storage closets. 4" thick gray concrete sidewalk and paving. There will be seating area with picnic tables, metal bench, concrete seat wall, new rubber mulch playground surface, new concrete playground curb, van accessible ADA parking space, underground splash pad water stor- age/re-circulation tank. The grant requires development activities to be- gin within 6 months of the fully executed participant agreement. For more details, contact Quartzsite Town Hall, 465 N.
