We have had a busy and productive semester, with many achievements and challenges. First, we received the Peterson Significant Chapter Award for the 2021-22 school year. The Peterson is the highest honor that Sigma Chi Fraternity bestows on an undergraduate chapter. The chapter has now received this award two of the past three years. We look forward to the challenge of continuing that honor for the 2022-23 school year. Secondly, we have participated in many activities and events that have enriched our fraternity experience. Derby Days, our annual fundraiser, is at the end of April; it is always a great time raising funds for the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Our undergraduate brothers have also spent many hours volunteering at Manhattan-area charities. We initiated a large pledge class in fall 2022, and with the house being full, we did not have any spring pledges. Our recruitment chairmen are actively recruiting for the fall pledge class, already hosting many recruiting events. Keep an eye out for information on our 75th celebration. We will be using the newsletter and emails to provide updates. We hope to see you all back in Manhattan for that celebration in April 2024. Lastly, we have some changes coming to the house corporation board. Doug Burton '89, who has been serving as president, is stepping down due to personal reasons (read his message below). Words cannot express our deep sense of gratitude for his leadership and contributions. Our chapter would not be in the outstanding position it is today without his efforts during the house renovation, growing house membership, and always exemplifying the principles of the Jordan Standard. We want to thank him for his service and dedication to our chapter and to Sigma Chi as a whole. We will be electing a new house corporation president soon. We are excited to finish the spring semester with enthusiasm and success, and for the fall semester and the opportunities it will bring. I was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, glioblastoma, in early January. I have had surgery and finished radiation and chemotherapy at KU and will be receiving immunotherapy at Duke beginning in May. I am happy to visit with anyone who wishes, and you can follow my progress on my CaringBridge link at caringbridge.org/visit/dougburton. I am incredibly proud of the work the alumni and actives have done over the past eight years to renovate the physical structure of the fraternity house and to elevate the quality and culture of the chapter. I am certain that this will only continue to escalate in the years to come with the leadership we have. I want to thank everyone who has been involved in the chapter over the years. My involvement as an alumnus, beginning in 2015, has been one of the most meaningful things in which I have participated in my career. I am so fortunate and proud to be a Sigma Chi.
