alpha chi omega | page 4 A lpha Nu is proud to develop caring women who remain devoted to the sisterhood. Beyond her college years, Karen Knoblauch Neylon '79 has supported the chapter through her House Corporation Board (HCB) service. It all started with her choice to join Alpha Chi Omega, and she has done nothing but make wonderful lifelong memories along the way. Clege and Carr "Being a part of Alpha Chi provided me with a lot of older and younger sisters," Karen, who comes from a household with two older brothers, said. She enjoyed life at 900 Richmond, from chatting with sisters on phone duty to late nights in the TV room to racing back just in time for Leona's cinnamon rolls on Fridays. Karen spent two terms as vice president, sharpening her management and communication skills in the process. After graduating from Mizzou, Karen did "a little bit of everything" in communications and marketing. She began working for a small ad agency in St. Louis followed by an in-house agency for a trade association and, later, a regional business journal in Pennsylvania after marriage. Karen's final career move found her back at Mizzou for 30 years before retiring in 2021 as the School of Law's director of communications. Cumbia Cnectis After returning to Missouri, Sue Taylor '80 asked Karen to join the HCB, since many members were scattered around the state. She agreed, and Karen has since selflessly served as president, vice president, and treasurer over three decades. Throughout the years, Karen is grateful to have formed relationships with trustworthy area vendors and contractors for the house. "They wanted to have boots on the ground in Columbia, and I thought it was something I would enjoy. Little did I know that I would still be on the board 30 years later. Fortunately, we also have added more mid-Missouri members over those years!" Sierhd Stays Strg Alongside her HCB work, Karen is president of Kappa Upsilon Kappa, the mid-Missouri local alumnae chapter. The group welcomes alumnae from all eras and currently has sisters in their 20s to their 70s, and Karen would love to grow the social gatherings in Columbia, Fulton and Jefferson City. "I always say we're a 'small but committed' group determined to reach out to sisters in the area for fun and sisterhood. We only have 17 dues-paid members (unlike the larger chapters in St. Louis and Kansas City), but I'm always amazed at how many different Alpha Chi collegiate chapters are represented among us." Karen's husband of 34 years, Pat, is also a Mizzou alumnus. They live on the golf course at The Club at Old Hawthorne, so Karen and Pat spend plenty of time enjoying the scenery.
