14 | 2023 Gravette Community Guide Granny's Simple Blessings: hometown home cooking By Randy Rice Special to Gravette Community Guide Holly Wallace launched Granny's Simple Blessings over seven years ago in a charming old house just east of the post office on Main Street. From its very first day, it was one of the most unique businesses in Gravette. "What I do is home-cooked foods," Holly explained. "I do anything, from pies to cheesecakes to homemade breads and cinnamon rolls. And I also do home-cooked meals to go." Some people order ahead of time, and she puts out the word to her loyal fan base about the meals she has available that day. If they are not purchased by closing time, she freezes them for another day. Holly's storefront also includes cras and paintings from local artists, among which include her artist mother. "I bought an old house that looks just like Granny's," she said. "You walk into the living room and that basically functions as the storefront. It's filled with my mother's paintings and items from local vendors." e vision for Granny's came to Holly one Sunday morning when she least expected it. "God asked me if I could do anything for a living, what would I do," Holly said. "I started with cooking cinnamon rolls and kept adding thoughts to the list and by the end of the day I had five pages of ideas, most of which went on to being part of Granny's. I think God was talking to me that day. at's where the 'simple blessings' part of the name came from." Within five days, Holly was looking for a location to bring her vision to fruition. e moment she stepped into the house on Main Street she knew it was the place, and she made an offer on the spot. Holly believes Granny's Simple Blessings is really a reflection of the town itself. While Gravette is growing, it is still holding on to everything that is good about a small town. "My business, like Gravette, honors the past that my Granny Dot represents," Holly noted. "at slower-paced life our grandmas lived and their down-home recipes that were so wholesome and good … all of those simple blessings that our grandparents brought to us and that a small town community like Gravette still keeps alive."
