3 W hen the chapter was suspended in 2016, we knew that an investment in both the chapter and the chapter house was needed. e house corporation had already begun a capital campaign to address the housing needs, and that was put on hold until we knew Alabama Alpha-Mu would successfully return. In our absence, the house has not improved on its own, and we know this major investment in our future is needed. We also know it is imperative for our men at Alabama Alpha-Mu to have access to all the resources required for overall wellness and success during their time as active members. In order to achieve this, we have partnered with the mental and behavioral wellness group What Good Looks Like LLC. WGLL empowers chapter members to create a fraternity for what it was always meant to be: a life-enriching, life-changing experience. From chapter leaders to new members, WGLL educates and inspires members in academic and social life balance, mental health awareness, self-awareness, leadership development, service, and philanthropy. WGLL provides a team of mental health professionals as well as a local member mentor who spends time at the fraternity house weekly and is available to all members to help them with stress, anxiety, career discernment, drug and alcohol education, academics, or any other challenge they may be facing. We value this partnership and are proud to support the overall wellbeing of our members. WHAT WE ARE DOING TO PROTECT OUR FUTURE Does Greek Life at Auburn Still Matter? Given our close relationship with Auburn's Greek Life Office, our answer is a resounding yes—Greek life at Auburn is as strong as it has ever been. Beyond our own personal experiences and memories, research shows that Greek life still has a meaningful and positive impact on young men and women: Greek members show greater overall involvement and engagement on campus, in student organizations, and in the classroom with stronger learning gains and satisfaction with the college experience. More than 80% of college students deal with anxiety, and more than 60% also feel socially isolated/lonely and depressed (JED Foundation, 2020). Greek-affiliated students report higher positive mental health scores and lower levels of depression and anxiety (Biddix, Assalone and Grace, 2020). Affiliated alumni give back to their alma maters at higher rates (54% vs. 10% nonaffiliated) and serve as brand ambassadors at a time when these institutions need their influence and support. ey are also substantially more likely to recommend their school to others (Gallup, 2021). Specifically at Auburn, every year the Greek community donates over $800,000 to philanthropic efforts and performs 120,000 hours of service. ere are currently 25 active fraternity chapters at Auburn with more than 2,550 members combined. More than 20% of undergraduate men at Auburn are members of a fraternity.
