O
ur Alabama Alpha-Mu Chapter of Sigma Alpha
Epsilon has a storied tradition dating back
to 1878 as the first fraternity on the Auburn
University campus. e profound past of the chapter
began at a time when fraternities were not allowed on
campus. With the help of a few brothers at neighboring
SAE chapters and determined Alabama Alpha-Mu John
E.D. Shipp, our chapter was founded over 144 years ago.
From our founding to the present, our proud history of
high academic achievement and leadership within the
university speaks for itself. With more than 1,850 initiates,
the Alabama Alpha-Mu Chapter has influenced the lives
of numerous men while cultivating lasting friendships in
the process. Many of our best college memories are from
our fraternity experience.
While many of our brothers have gone on to successful
and distinguished careers in business, law, architecture,
agriculture, medicine, and countless other endeavors, the
common bond of our brotherhood remains along with
our shared principles and values. e early standards we
received through the fraternity, including organizational
and social skills, leadership and character development,
and teamwork, have been integral to our personal
success. Most of our accomplishments, both personal
and professional, can be traced to the root of our success:
Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Auburn.
