M A K I N G B E T T E R M E N Mrs. G Prepares Brothers for Their Futures T he atmosphere in Lambda Chapter is one of enthusiasm, involvement, and brotherhood. A record number of collegiate members are running for minor committees and sub-committees. They want to be involved, and they care about the future of agriculture, the house, and each other. I have the pleasure of working with VNR Planning Caden Carlson #1858 and an exceptional committee to plan next year's programs and events. We have more ideas than time—you will likely be hearing about Parent's Day, Scholarship Day, Founder's Day, the fourth annual Alumni Networking event, and the mentoring program. As the new committee begins, we will survey the collegians to learn which events and professional development topics are of most interest. In my role as a professional development coordinator, I am preparing the collegians for internships and careers. We have sessions on career fair preparation, résumé writing, working a room, making a good first impression, dining etiquette, interviewing, writing a professional thank- you note, following up, and compensation negotiation. I am seizing every opportunity to prepare them for professional interactions, using a one- minute etiquette message before a formal meal on Monday and a short lesson during the chapter meeting each week. I would like to take this time to publicly acknowledge and thank Mark Waschek #1351 of Ag1Source. After Founder's Day last year, he sought us out to offer his expertise. He spent the entire day at the house and worked on résumés with 15 collegians. I know there are more of you out there with expertise to share. Thank you, Mark, for showing us how well it can work! In the four years I have been in this role, we have held our alumni networking event and continued the practice of an etiquette dinner at the house. This year, we held the etiquette dinner at North Oaks Golf Club coupled with a date night. It was a great change of venue and a very nice event, but it could've been better. Space at the house has limited the number of alumni we can invite to networking events, so in September, we will try something new. We will hold the alumni networking event coupled with the etiquette dinner and kick off an AGR alumni mentorship event at North Oaks Golf Club. We need 33 men to attend and commit to serve as mentors. Will you join us? I look forward to seeing you at Founder's Day on April 15! Sincerely, Teri Gustafson (Mrs. G) (651) 334-7361 Congratulations, Seniors! O ur soon-to-be alumni share their post-undergraduate plans below.
