Arrow Talk PAGE 4 T he foundation of sisterhood is built on supporting fellow women through major life events. Susannah Marley Hooper '95 first recognized Pi Phi's support system through her mother and sister's sorority experiences. When it was Susannah's turn to join Pi Beta Phi, she fell in love with the same sisterhood as her family members. "I walked into the house at 324 S. Cleveland and felt like I was home," Susannah said. While making memories through parties, road trips, weekend shenanigans and watching Days of Our Lives at the house, she also contributed to Oklahoma Beta as House Manager. "I made the most amazing friends there and cherish their friendships to this day." Pi Phi has been beside Susannah throughout her life since college, even during her greatest times of need. When her son Aidan tragically passed away, the sisterhood answered the call to help. "At the time of Aidan's death, I was serving on the Alumnae Advisory Committee (AAC)," Susannah shared. "At his funeral, I was surrounded by collegians, my sisters that were in the house with me, members of AAC, CHC and the local alumnae club." Sisters brought meals, helped take care of the Hooper family's home, handled media and constantly showed Susannah what Pi Phi's support system truly stands for. "My husband was not Greek, and he finally understood what was special about Pi Phi." Susannah is forever grateful for her Pi Phi connections, and she urges current collegians to make the most of their active years by nurturing relationships and being fully invested in Oklahoma Beta. After her time on AAC, Susannah took a break from Oklahoma Beta operations to focus on family life. When the opportunity later arose, she couldn't resist the chance to join the Chapter House Corporation. "I was asked to serve by Jan Turner Polk '65, who has given more time to Oklahoma Beta than Oklahoma Beta deserves!" While the responsibilities of CHC and the building committee can be stressful, Susannah sees her service as a chance to repay the women who have remained so dedicated to helping the sisterhood. Through proper handling of gifts to the chapter, Susannah and CHC aim to offer the best experience possible for Oklahoma Beta collegians. "Follow your heart—no gift is too small." Sisters by Her Side Why Pi Phi Means the World to Susannah Marley Hooper '95 "I can never repay Pi Phi for the support I have been given, but I am able to help the next generation find their home and their people—the people who will live life with them!"
