Born in Augusta, Ill., on November 22, 1928, Duane enlisted in the Army after high school and then attended Oklahoma A&M (now OSU), where he was a founding member of the Delta Chi Chapter. Duane met his future wife, Martha Marie Barnes, at OSU; they married in 1952 at the Shelter. After graduating, Duane was again called back to the Army, serving in the Korean War as an officer. Duane was very proud of being a veteran of both the WWII and Korean eras and was grateful for the GI Bill that gave him the opportunity to attend college and graduate school. He worked at Exxon and MW Kellogg during his career and enjoyed international travel—both through work and in retirement. In 2021, Chip Woodward '68 drove Duane from Houston to Stillwater for a Delta Chi reunion; Duane spoke for 15 minutes about his Delt involvement at the reunion. At his funeral, Duane's family spoke as well of how important Delt was to his life. He is survived by two daughters, two sons, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed many hobbies including cooking, golfing, sailing, hunting, and skiing. Packy is survived by his son, Patrick, former wife, Lori, two sister, and three nieces and nephews.
