Sigma Phi Epsilon - Missouri Gamma Chapter 310 S Arthur Ashe Blvd Richmond, VA 23225-5706 Address Service Requested BEARTRACKS GOING GREEN GOING GREEN "At St. Pat's in 1973 (my freshman year), my brother Steve Ganz '74 and Board Rep Karl Schenke '74 decided late Saturday night, after the festivities, that they should 'borrow' a tractor or two that had been used that day to pull the parade floats and go for a ride. I was tasked very early Sunday morning to aid in the return of the 'loaner' vehicles. Luckily the town was very quiet that morning as we drove the tractors down Pine St. My senior year as a rep was so much fun all around. During the Knighting ceremony, I orchestrated brother Dan Vance '78 to be the last Knight of the day. After tossing him in the large vat of Alice— true to my word to Danny—I dove in with him. We stood in the mire and embraced. Brotherly Love." –Randy Ganz '78 (Continued from page 1) "I remember the time I was heading to the St. Pat's coronation dance. I was wearing a black tux with brown shoes. Brother Gary Nickens '67 stopped me in the kitchen and somebody came up with some black shoes. Great to have brothers looking out for me!" –Ray Zesch '70 "My favorite memory started with getting two St. Pat's board reps to pledge SigEp: Bob Sorter and Joe Dobrowolski. The three of us managed to get Ms. Betty Jean Foland (who later married brother Bruce Harting '71) elected as the Queen of St. Pat's, although she didn't really need our help." –Russ Wortham '71 "Our parade float in '68 was Snoopy and the Red Baron. I was the float chairman that year. It went off without a hitch—no speeding tickets, traffic incidents, or wrecks. Being the chairman, I got to ride inside. I actually don't remember that much, other than crawling into the float at the start, but I seem to remember that my brothers kept the float well lubricated. Snoopy had a bit of incontinence that day, leaving puddles on Pine Street. In '67, our marvelous Road Runner float was decapitated by a power line as it pulled out of our drive. Just provided an example of how a lack of logistics planning can mess up good engineering. In '66, I think Jay Tibbles '67 got a speeding ticket while on a test run with our float. And the parade crowd was amazed at how the [fake] horses, whose legs had broken off, could still tow the covered wagon. Another engineering lesson!" –Donald "Wojo" Wojtkowski '68 Snoopy and the Red Baron, SigEp's 1968 float. From the Editor BEARTRACKS and eTRACKS: Have you noticed?
