Some great hiking, biking and outdoor adventures in McDonald County: PiNEvillE PuMPTRail aND BikE PaRk 149 County Rd SEW24 Pineville, MO Pineville's Bike Park was opened on July 8th 2017. This sustainable bike recreation area includes a Bicycle Playground, Skate Spot with Concrete Pumptrack, Skills Trails, Flow Trail with progression jump opportunities and a Hammock Chill Zone. Located right next to Sugar Island so you can bike then hit the creek for some kayak or canoe fun! The newest addition to the bike park is a great pavilion to rest under or place to have a birthday party. HuCklEBERRy RiDGE CONSERvaTiON aREa 2012 Packet Hollow Rd, Pineville, MO 417-895-6880 Huckleberry Ridge Conservation Area is in southern McDonald County, east of Pineville. Visitors can access the area from several area roads that originate from Route K. This 2,106- acre area is almost entirely forested. Purchased in the early 1960's and originally named Huckleberry Ridge State Forest, this area was the first large forested tract acquired by the Conservation Department in southwest Missouri. Huckleberry Ridge Conservation Area is on the edge of the range for shortleaf pine, Missouri's only native pine. The species used to be more abundant. In fact, the nearby community of Pineville was named for the abundance of pines in the nearby hills at the time of settlement. According to legend, locals used to harvest huckleberries, a type of blueberry belonging to the Vaccinium family in this area. Ozark chinkapin, native to only five counties in Missouri, is also found on the area. Ozark chinkapin, a close relative of the American chestnut, has also been ravaged by the chestnut blight since the late 1800's. The area hosts 17.3 miles of multiuse trails that are open to hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Some trails are for the adventurous and some for the laid back.There is plenty of hill climbing and nice scenic forestry views. Horseback riding and mountain biking are popular out here, with a ranch nearby that will let you rent a guide/horses. BiG SuGaR CREEk STaTE PaRk 126 Big Sugar Creek Rd, Pineville, MO Big Sugar Creek State Park is a public recreation area encompassing more than 2,000 acres in McDonald County in southwest Missouri, United States. The state park was established in 1992 to preserve part of the Elk River water system, which Big Sugar Creek is part of. The park has a three-mile-long trail for hiking. Here you can hike a trail back into history. Big Sugar Creek State Park is a rugged landscape of rare shrubs and trees not often seen anymore in Missouri. Visitors can find solitude in hiking through shady upland woodlands and sunny grassy glades while passing near numerous rock ledges. Notable plants such as the Ozark Chinquapin tree and low prickly pear cactus can be found along with animals such as armadillos and birds such as scarlet tanagers.
