all kinds of wonderful and unique people and see them enjoying great conversations with one another over a great cup of coffee," Kristeen said. "There's so much joy and love in this community and it is a pleasure to be at a place that brings people from all walks of life together as friends. We really try to let our customers know that we care about them. Our smiles and joy to see them are truly genuine." "We've always been a family that loved to have people over to our house for dinner or just have great fellowship with friends," Kristeen continued. "There's been plenty of times, especially in recent years, when we just didn't know anyone to invite though. We invited everyone we knew to our soft opening. And they came! It was a packed coffeehouse! I couldn't believe people actually liked it. Afterwards, I remember sitting teary-eyed at a table with one of my daughters and saying, 'I would've done this for free for them.' You see, the joy is in the friendships and the serving." The Wakeland family moved to the community five years ago from Grove, Oklahoma. But they immediately fell in love with the area. "We are country people at heart," Kristeen said. "We love our chickens and open fields and the general freedom and peace that open skies bring. We moved here to be close enough to go to the city for work and amenities, but mostly to establish some roots for our family. We seem to fit in pretty well in either setting, but McDonald County is home and it is where we intend to stay for a long time to come." Future plans for Lawkew include opening curbside ordering and also creating an outdoor area. "We think people would enjoy hearing the cows in the pasture behind us and watching the sunrise while enjoying their drinks," Kristeen said. For now, six days a week the surrounding community can enjoy the great brews and baked goods in the friendly confines of Lawkew Coffee. And be on the lookout for future events. Lance and Dylan, have an arm-wrestling tournament in the works to be held at LawKew Coffee sometime very soon!
