Originally opened in 1886 as the Osthoff Hotel by German entrepreneur, Otto Osthoff and his wife Paulina, the hotel was a favorite destination for the affluent that wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city while still enjoying luxurious accommodations, quality entertainment and fine dining. In the mid-1950s, the Osthoff Hotel is sold and for more than 30 years is operated as a drama and arts camp. In 1989, a group of investors purchase the property to develop a condominium resort. With the beautiful, wooded acreage and 500 feet of beach and shoreline, The Osthoff Resort became a AAA Four Diamond property and one of the premier resort destinations in the Midwest. Today, the resort features three buildings of suites with varying layouts and rooms, the nationally ranked Aspira spa, multiple indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, saunas, fitness center, arcade, watersport rentals and multiple restaurants and bars. A 38,000 square foot conference center has also been added and the property provides a variety of entertainment for its guests and visitors along with being a highly sought-after destination for weddings, family reunions, business conferences and both leisure and business getaways. With such an expansive property, how many employees does it take to run The Osthoff Resort? During our summer season, the resort employs approximately 450 full and part-time employees. The fall, winter and spring months require between 250-300 full and part-time employees based on the calendar of events that take place. Visitors have been coming to The Osthoff Resort for a little over a century, describe the love that visitors have for the resort and Elkhart Lake, and what continues to bring them back year after year?
