NEWS Big Red Island Big Red Island Beta Theta Pi at Oklahoma State University / Spring 2023 J anuary 6, 1923—that is the day our chapter was founded all those years ago. If you've followed Gamma Lambda in recent years, you know our house has continued to excel in all its endeavors. The General Fraternity states our mission is to "develop men of principle for a principled life." So how do we do that at our Beta house? Can we still say excellence is everywhere and brotherhood continues to grow? Many of us know the recruitment process has been significantly refined and reorganized since Beta implemented the Men of Principle initiative some 20+ years ago. Stronger recruitment leads to building strong fraternal bonds through a philosophy of values, responsibility, leadership, and accountability in pursuing our lofty goals in academics, shows, sports, leadership development, and other activities. When we look at all the chapter's accomplishments, we continue to see major successes on all fronts. In the 2021-22 academic year, we finished with first-place awards in all three shows, second in GPA after competing with 22 fraternities on our campus, and first-place trophies in sports are consistently added to our trophy cases. We continue to have active brothers named to OSU's Top 10 Freshman and Seniors of Significance honors. In the current school year's first semester, we again won first place in Freshman Follies, second place in the yard decoration at Homecoming decs, and second place in academics. Of special note, a 3.56 GPA was achieved by 186 men—a phenomenal outcome for such a large group of men. With all these activities and the pairing of programs with sororities, there is an abundance of opportunities to develop the lifelong relationships that we all value. David Buskirk '23 has a detailed president's report of accomplishments on page 2. With the high quality of competence of our chapter brothers, a diversity of skills and educational backgrounds, and an abundance of taking ownership in our activities combined with our depth of leadership, we can still say excellence is everywhere at our chapter of Beta Theta Pi. FEBRUARY 25 100-YEAR ANNIVERSARY PHOTOS The photographer for the Saturday, February 25, 2023, celebration event in Stillwater should have pictures available shortly after the anniversary weekend. An email will be sent with a link notifying those interested in getting some pictures. DONOR WALL UPDATE The Beta Building Corp has the Donor Wall under contract with a granite company. Due to supply issues for granite slabs and panels, the granite we need for our wall may not be available until later in 2023. There are now full-scale posters in place in our Heritage Room that replicate the look that the finalized wall will have at completion. Therefore, if there are other brothers and friends of Beta that would like to donate to our campaign, we will be taking additional gifts and donations at the $2,500 entry point and above until the granite engraving takes place. If you have questions about the Donor Wall or want to discuss giving, please contact one of the BRI newsletter editors listed below. Read, look, and enjoy!
