BY JAY BOBBIN more retro rewinds The success of the original "Planet of the Apes" movie proved that Charlton Heston and sci-fi suited each other well, so the Oscar-winning actor stayed in that genre for "The Omega Man." Turner Classic Movies shows the effective 1971 melodrama (directed by television veteran Boris Segal) Monday, Jan. 23, as part of a night of films suggesting what could happen after an apocalypse. In the case of Heston's Robert Neville, that means fighting robed, sunglass-wearing mutants who wreak mayhem and try to convert whatever is left of the human race to their state. Also featuring Anthony Zerbe and Rosalind Cash, this actually is one of several screen adaptations of the Richard Matheson story "I Am Legend," also including an earlier one that starred Vincent Price and a later one with Will Smith.
