Christmas is truly the season of
giving and this past holiday Kaitrynn
and Trevor S. wanted to help give
back to a local animal shelter.
But they needed help making their
project successful. So, what better
group than the residents who live
at Concordia Independent Living
Community in Bella Vista? Animals
are welcome at Concordia and many
of the residents there have fluffy,
furry and feathery friends.
Kaitrynn and Trevor's mom, Kelley,
displayed a small Christmas tree with
spoon ornaments that she and her
children made together to be sold at
Concordia. They sold the ornaments
at Concordia's holiday bazaar, at
their annual "Furball" Holiday Photo
event, and then displayed the tree in
the lobby after the events for more
sales. Kaitrynn and Trevor donated
100% of the money they made
from selling the ornaments to the
Springdale Animal Shelter.
Kelley said that initially she helped
them design the spoon ornaments,
but when more were needed,
Kaitrynn and Trevor took it upon
themselves to do most of the work
themselves. This involved learning
to use special machines to bend the
spoons. Trevor learned new ways
to make the designs to not only
reflect the holiday season, but also
to represent the pets they were
supporting with the sale of their
spoon ornaments.
Later, Kaitrynn and Trevor came
to accept the funds from one of
Concordia's residents, Pat Heald and
her furry friend, Kita.
