Have you ever taken your cat or dog to
the veterinarian when they were sick? If so,
you probably saw them get an examination,
maybe bloodwork or radiographs, and then
some medications to go home with. If they
are feeling really bad, your cat or dog may
have had to stay overnight at the hospital so
they could be monitored closely and get the
medications they needed by the nurses and
doctors. Some pets may have even needed
surgeries because they broke a bone, they
ate something they shouldn't have, or they
are just really sick.
Did you know that wild animals can
get injured or sick in the same way? Wild
animals such as wild birds also need
veterinarians and veterinary teams to help
fix them up when they are sick or injured.
Northsong Wild Bird Rehabilitation is
an organization that does just that – we
provide medical care to the injured birds
of Northwest Arkansas. Any songbird,
owl, hawk, goose, heron, or other bird
you can think of will come to us when they
are sick or hurt. We examine them, we do
bloodwork and radiographs on them, we
give them the medications they need, and
sometimes they even get surgeries! These
birds often stay with us for a few months,
until they are ready to go back into the wild.
