3 A Year in Review Actives Go Above and Beyond This semester has been filled with fun and laughter, and I am eager to share our highlights! August We had a full week of prep for recruitment that included dress-up days from Purple Out where everyone wore purple and dressed like a stereotypical fraternity dude. Our Work Week was filled with learning chants, singing, and getting excited about our new sisters. September We welcomed 39 incredible new sisters! Bid Day was filled with colors and smiles. Later in September, all members participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer's in downtown Lafayette. We raised more than $10,000. This is by far one of our favorite philanthropies, and sharing the experience with new members was even more fun. We also had fun during our annual Barn Dance, where sisters dressed up in their favorite country clothes. October We attended football games with Alpha Tau Omega, our next-door neighbor and football buddies. Our big/little reveal matched member class '21 with littles in the new member class. November We participated in Phi Mu's annual philanthropic event, Miracle Mania, where we raised money for Riley's Children Hospital by creating a dance to perform in front of other fraternities and sororities. Sigma Kappa won the competition with our killer dance moves and our sisters showing up to the event to support. December During our Christmas party, we made Christmas grams for our sisters and received permanent bracelets. 2023 We are eager to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Beta Sigma Chapter and all the memories that have come from this sisterhood. Loyally, Kendall Butler '20 Chapter President Sisters brought their best moves for Miracle Mania this year. Honoring the Past Honoring the Past Contribute Your ΣK Memorabilia to Frame Our Decades A lumnae engagement committee member Katrinka Brown Toebes '83 realized she had favors from dances, glasses, mugs, buttons, a football t-shirt, and items other sisters made her as pledge welcome gifts. "These bring back great memories, but I'm not really using them," she said. Katrinka, an award-winning art teacher in Indianapolis, suggested the memorabilia could be used to create memory boxes for each decade since the house was founded in 1948. These shadow boxes will be an activity for sisters participating in the 75th anniversary weekend May 19-21, 2023. "We can hang those boxes in the house to capsulize and commemorate our lives and times at the house!" Katrinka said. If you have memorabilia— particularly small items that can be used in a frame—and you would be willing to donate them, please bring them to the reunion in May. If you have any questions or suggestions, contact Katrinka at katoebes1@gmail.com. Just one of the memory boxes we hope to put up throughout the house.
