Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta House Corporation P.O. Box 1880 Tuscaloosa, AL 35403-1880 Address Ser vice Requested The Katydid I am excited to be in my fourth year at Kappa Delta. My first group of freshmen will be graduating this year. This class experienced a lot in their four years of college, and I'm thrilled I was along for the ride. Coming here from Florida, this group, along with the upperclassmen who have already graduated, helped me learn all things Alabama and taught me to say, "Roll Tide!" both as hello and goodbye! We are off to a great start this year with a wonderful group of 139 new members. These sweet women are fitting right in, and I love getting to know them. The freshmen always bring fresh energy and excitement to the house. This fall has been busy with formal recruitment, Bid Day, sisterhood events, initiation, swaps, date parties, formals, and game day meals—there is always something happening. The Kappa Delta house is full with 64 sisters living in, and we have already filled the house for the 2023-24 school year, except for a few spots held for incoming Council. Other than the few Junior Council members, the house residents will all be seniors. This tradition is unique to just a few Alabama chapters, and it's a very special ending to their sorority experience. When will they ever have the opportunity to live with 60 of their very best friends again? Meal service is also a big part of the members' experience. Chef Victoria and all our staff returned this year. Three meals a day are served Monday through Thursday, and breakfast and lunch are served on Friday. Our staff works hard to provide excellent meals to ensure that everyone's dietary needs are met. There is a special relationship between them and the Kappa Delta ladies they serve. Follow us on Instagram @kdkuisine to see some of our incredible food. We are looking forward to hosting Parent's Weekend on March 3-5. Please mark your calendars for this fun weekend. We'll host a brunch on Saturday, and parents will have an opportunity to tour the Chapter House. I am here at the house every day, so reach out if you or your daughter need anything or have questions pertaining to meals or the house. My email is bfharrison1@ua.edu. Parents are welcome to visit the house with their daughter when they're in town. Alumnae are also welcome, please let us know when you would like to schedule a time to visit. Come see us and Roll Tide! Love in AOT, Barbara Harrison Housemother WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE CHAPTER HOUSE Housemother Barbara Harrison Shares the Latest I n September 2021, the Mountain Brook Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Delta honored Sally Smith Legg '78 and Mary Stimpson Turner '84 for their receipt of the Order of the Emerald from Kappa Delta Sorority. The reception was held at Mountain Brook Club with several of our members and alumnae in attendance. The Order of the Emerald is given to an alumna who has displayed extraordinary service to Kappa Delta at the local, state, or national level. Nominated by fellow Kappa Deltas and chosen by committee, the recipients have exhibited selfless devotion to the sorority through service. Both Sally and Mary have made tremendous contributions to Kappa Delta through their work with Kappa Delta at The University of Alabama. Sally was instrumental in our new Chapter House, serving as the chairman of design and construction. Mary served for many years on our Advisory Board and on the House Corporation Board as the capital campaign co-chairman, and she has served in alumnae leadership roles as well. Mary also recently received the Order of the Omega Advisor of the year at The University of Alabama. It is such an honor to have two of our alumnae receive this prestigious award. Dedicated to Kappa Delta Sally Smith Legg '78 and Mary Stimpson Turner '84 Receive Order of the Emerald for Their Service Mary Stimpson Turner '84 and Sally Smith Legg '78.
