"Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your
success will be how you treat other people—your family, friends, and
coworkers, and even strangers you meet along the way." –Barbara Bush,
Texas Eta, Alumna Initiate
T
hese words from First Lady Barbara Bush ring true as we navigate
through seasons of our lives. We know this to be true, yet we all falter at
times as friends, sisters, mothers, and daughters. Whether it is intentional or
accidental, a reminder from my sweet grandmother, "Pretty is as pretty does,"
shifts me back to the path of kindness that I need to take. Kindness is always a
good thing.
We were very busy this summer. e Monday after USC graduation is when
we got moving on projects. We are so fortunate to have the original sketching
and blueprints from our famed architect, Paul R. Williams, to use as our guide
as we spiffy up our house and thrive to achieve the vision Mr. Williams had so
long ago.
We continued with adding moulding to interior doors in the downstairs
hallway as well as wainscoting. We put in hardwood floors and a built-in
cabinet and bookshelf in the guest bedroom. We also added hardwood
floors in the House Director's apartment and the hallways on the second
and third floors. We replaced all the carpets in the stairwells as well as
the second and third floor bedrooms. e third-floor recreation room
got a makeover too. We reupholstered the sofas, chairs, and ottomans,
and we bought new art for the walls. e TV room downstairs,
bathroom, guest bedroom, and House Director's apartment have
new window coverings and area rugs that make the rooms look
finished. We reupholstered all the dining room chairs and the desk
chairs in each bedroom. We have also solved the security camera
problems and they are all up and working. e internet is much faster,
and the sisters are grateful for the upgrade. e roof has been sealed and
leaky windows have been replaced. Our house at 667 W. 28th Street is in a
good place, and I thank you for your donations and support throughout
the years.
Enjoy this new season. As I expressed in past Entre Nous newsletters, fall is my
favorite time of the year. It's a fresh start as we find ourselves looking forward
to the holidays. May you find health, happiness, and kindness as we are out
and about enjoying our time with friends and family.
