Χ Ω 2 The Cardinal and Straw RELOCATED RECRUITMENT Our semester is off to a great start with primary recruitment, led by our recruitment chairman, Grace LaSala '20. Our neighbors, Beta Sigma Psi fraternity, generously allowed us use of their house for all recruitment events and Bid Day. Our theme for Bid Day was Chi O Circus, and we wore bright colors and clown outfits, ate snow cones and popcorn, ran through a giraffe sprinkler, and danced all night to an entertaining DJ. This fun was thanks to our new member educator, Lauren Johnson '20. We had a blast welcoming our 31 new members and enjoyed being together again after summer break. SISTERHOOD BONDING Chapter events have been in full swing. For one event, our sisterhood director, Brooke Williams '20, and sisterhood event chairman, Adison Reinertsen '20, hosted bowling in the union. Since we are unable to hang out together at 1516 McCain Lane, these types of sisterhood events are very important for spending time with each other in a casual setting. Our first date party of the year was September 23 and took place at Johnny Kaws Yard Bar. This venue had a fun outdoor setting where we played games like giant Jenga and cornhole, and an indoor space where we danced with our sisters and dates. The theme was Chi O Disco, and everyone had a great, safe time! This event was planned by our social directors, Ashton Kate Davis '20 and Sara Schierling '20, along with our date party chairmen, Kelsey Coulter '21 and Leah Osborn '21. UPCOMING EVENTS As the semester continues, we look forward to our big/little reveal and all- house retreat. We will be going to Manhattan's local pumpkin patch, Britt's Farm, where our big/little reveal will take place in their corn maze. After new members find their bigs, we will hop on a hayrack ride that will take us to a bonfire to eat s'mores and get to know our new families better. STAYING STRONG Although we are without our physical house for a while, our sisterhood is stronger than ever. I am so proud of the women of Kappa Alpha for adapting to these unusual circumstances and facing changes in such a positive way. For me, being able to lean on my sisters during difficult times epitomizes the value of sisterhood.
