Brett Bussman '88 didn't know many SAE brothers at first, but that was soon changed when his neighbor, Steve Puckett '84, introduced him to the chapter. Aer spending more time with the members, he found that they were a great group of men and knew this would be the fraternity for him. "SAE has had a profound impact on my life; it truly changed my life's trajectory," Brett shared. "I came in not knowing where I was going and not really knowing much about responsibility, but learned, with my pledge brothers, how to work as a team and to appreciate the opportunities we were given." Brett took advantage of those opportunities a fraternity provides, and he made the most of his time in Alpha Mu. He ran for every office he could and served as recruitment chairman, house manager, and eventually as Eminent Archon. at's not the only way he got involved; he even had the important duty of working in the kitchen—twice! Of all the fantastic memories he made, one of his favorites is when he met his future wife, Sally, who was the chapter's sweetheart. e friendships Brett made at SAE have also greatly influenced his life. "e coolest thing is how connected I still am today with brothers—I run into them in my community, in my industry, and at AU football games all the time, and even aer all these years, we still share the SAE brotherly bond." Brett not only enjoys having connections with his brothers through his position as senior vice president general manager of the Alabama/ Florida panhandle at Tractor and Equipment Company, but as an Alabama man, he also enjoys traveling around the state, seeing its growth, and meeting new people. He has even had the opportunity to travel to exciting places outside the U.S. Auburn is soon to be the alma mater for the entire Bussman family. Brett's daughter, Sally Kale (25), earned her master's degree in education and teaches second grade; his son, Conner (23), works with him; and his other son, Collin (22), is finishing up his senior year in civil engineering. In his free time, Brett loves to spend time at Lake Martin and go to the hunting camp with his family. I also really like the property, the house itself, and the location of SAE." –Parker Elebash '26 "I came for one weekend over the summer and checked out four fraternities, including SAE. I was able to make connections with the guys, which was relieving considering I did not know many people at Auburn, being from Ashburn, Virginia." –Matt Ihle '26 "Being from Atlanta, I already knew some of the guys in the fraternity. ey told me great things about SAE, whether it was relationships they have developed with their brothers or the soon-to-be renovations around the house." –Robert Mitchell '26 WHY THEY CHOSE ALPHA MU
