In a way, "East New York" (which stars Amanda Warren, Jimmy Smits and Richard Kind) has had the biggest challenge since its start time has had to be flexible in much of the country because of the unpredictable length of NFL games, so it's that much more impressive that it made that sort of ratings mark so soon. Q: I enjoy watching repeats of "Bewitched" on Great American Family. How many years was the first Darrin on the show before the second one came in? – Lee Poster, via email A: The original actor, Dick York, was there for the first four seasons and much of the fifth (1964-69) – but his struggle with a degenerative spine condition ultimately caused him to leave the series. A number of Season 5 episodes were done without him and interspersed on the air with ones he was in, in an effort to make his absence less noticeable. Dick Sargent, who had been approached to play Darrin at the outset, then was asked again to assume the Darrin role for what turned out to be the sitcom's final three seasons (1969-72). Originally aired by ABC, the show could have lasted longer, but star Elizabeth Montgomery wanted to pursue other projects ... and indeed, she became a frequent and top star of made-for-TV movies.
