It is the number one cancer death in the state. The risk factors of developing lung cancer are smoking, secondhand smoking, radon, substances found at some workplaces (asbestos, arsenic, diesel exhaust and some forms of silica and chromium), radiation therapy to the chest and diet. You should get screened for lung cancer if you are an adult, between the ages of 50 to 80 who smokes (or smoked) one pack of cigarettes a day for 20 years, or if you quit within the past 15 years. It is important to create your personal health action plan to help reduce your risk for lung cancer as well as to make an informed decision on lung cancer testing.
