Pledge Class! Our new pledge class partakes in Kamp Kappa! A special 50-year reunion is on the horizon, and many sisters have put in much time and effort to ensure it is one to remember. Among them is Milly Huffman '72, who is thrilled with the response for the October 29 event. "We have women not only from the initiation class of 1972, but from other classes as well," Milly shared. Planning has taken about six months, and Milly is grateful to have had a lot of help from the Lexington ladies. Of course, housemother Miss Marcy and active sister Frances Vainrib '20 have been very helpful too. "I am excited to see so many Kappas and think we will have a wonderful weekend!" A SECOND HOME Coming from a small all-girl's high school in Memphis, there were only 33 ladies in Milly's graduating class. Getting to attend the University of Kentucky, make new friends, and live away from home for the first time was exciting, but Milly wanted that familiar feeling she was used to: a close circle of friends and a "home" to belong to. "Kappa just seemed right; I felt I belonged there," Milly shared. "The actives were welcoming, friendly, and fun. It was a great choice for me!" The friends Milly made through Kappa are still her closest today. "We grew up together and have shared the most important moments of our lives with one another. I feel very fortunate to have such deep and long- lasting friendships." SUPPORTING THE SISTERHOOD For others to experience the sorority life she had, Milly knew the house had to be expanded to accommodate the growing chapter. Now, actives can have chapter dinners and meetings at the house, and more women can live there. Milly donated to the chapter's capital campaign because being together and sharing experiences is integral to building friendships. "I have been to the house several times recently while planning the 50-year reunion for my class," Milly said. "The house is absolutely beautiful! It was renovated about five years ago and is double the size. They kept the original entry, front hall, and staircase, so it feels familiar while being completely updated." ALL IN THE FAMILY Milly has three daughters—all Kappas: Helen at the University of Alabama, Davis at the University of Georgia, and Anne at the University of Tennessee. That connection is truly special for Milly. As a stay-at-home mom, Milly had many of her friends' support. "There were both stay-at-home moms and working moms in our group," Milly shared. "We supported one another and shared the ups and downs of raising children, the challenges of busy families and, later, the responsibilities of caring for our parents." In her free time, Milly enjoys gardening, traveling, and making sure to get a walk in every day.
