alpha chi omega | page 6 CHAPTER ETERNAL Lea Jarrett Hecht '60 entered Chapter Eternal on February 9, 2022. Lea graduated from Mizzou with a B.S. in education in 1961. She was a member of University Singers. She taught in Grandview and Knoxville, Tenn., before having two children with her husband, Harvey. Lea later taught composition and literature at Southeast Missouri State University and helped grade writing samples for the SAT. Lea was a woman of faith who loved her family, music and traveling the world—including teaching and singing abroad. Madelyn Dennis Visconti '61 entered Chapter Eternal on February 2, 2022. Madelyn graduated from the MU School of Nursing in 1962. She and her husband, Jim, raised their three children in Columbus, Ohio. Madelyn practiced nursing and later worked as a diabetes educator until retiring in 1995. She was president of the Columbus Chapter of the Christ Child Society in 2002-03. Madelyn loved to sew, play bridge, travel, spend time with her family and volunteer; she also loved her Buckeyes! In retirement, Jim and Madelyn enjoyed being snowbirds in Bonita Springs, Fla. Madeline was committed to her Catholic faith, her family and her friends. Her thoughtful, patient and caring nature was felt by all who knew her. Nancy Goodman Blanchard '65 entered Chapter Eternal on June 27, 2022, after a 15- year struggle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Nancy had a B.S. in education and master's degrees in special education and school counseling. She taught in Algonac, Mich., and Tucson, Ariz. The mother of four children and four stepchildren, she was a friend, neighbor, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, crafter, bargain hunter and dog lover. Nancy lived a full, exuberant life and built relationships with many people, including her Alpha Chi Omega sisters. Sally Cole Gensberg '65 entered Chapter Eternal on November 30, 2019. Having settled on the Monterey Peninsula with her husband, John, Sally founded and ran Professional Management and Evaluation Services Inc., a local business that supported the licensing and certification of architects, engineers and other professionals. She took pride in serving local organizations, including the Native Plant Society, Girl Scouts, her church and local public schools; she also volunteered at election polls. In 1993, Sally received a letter of commendation from President Clinton for her part in creating a Career Day at Monterey High School. ALUMNAE NEWS LoVene Kraus Claypole '50 is 91 and thankful to be pain free after breaking her hip; she goes up the street with her walker daily for exercise. LoVene lives in Springfield, Mo. Her daughter, Perri, is retired, and her granddaughter has her doctorate and lives in Chicago. Email: mjstrickler653@aol.com Jane Mulholland Becker '54 lives in Winston Salem, N.C. She was widowed in December 2019 and moved into a continuing care facility. "I feel I am in a college dormitory, and we are all having so much fun—albeit coed, not like MU in my days." Email: jmbecker39@yahoo.com Alice Henkey Bender '54 lives in Overland Park, Kan., and finds it hard to believe it has been 67 years since she graduated. "Many, many good memories. I keep busy with four grands and four great-grands. Enjoy my flowers, reading, bridge, church and knitting. I have slowed down, but every day is a gift from God!" Betty Adams Crouch '57 lives in Creve Coeur, Mo., and keeps busy in retirement. She belongs to a number of organizations, especially enjoying the AXO group in St Louis. Email: bcrouch1@charter.net Diana Maxwell Bull '61, of Arvada, Colo., shares, "As I'm approaching my 80th birthday, my 52-year-old daughter, Melanie, had a baby through IVF! So, I'm a grandma again and loving getting to take care of Mancity (called City). She was born weighing only 2 lbs. 1 oz., and after 102 days in the NICU, she is home and up to 13 pounds. She is involved with many committees at her church and three bible studies, and she volunteers at the local history museum. She has two daughters and four grandchildren. Karen lives in Mound, Minn. I'm basically retired, but I'm in the middle of updating my own house in St. Joseph, Mo. Making new friends as old ones retire and move to Florida." She shares that her son, Mike Moon, passed away June 18, 2022, at the age of 47 from the effects of alcoholism. She teaches yoga and enjoys golfing, walking, swimming and playing bridge.
