Caroline Hartdegen '19 T his year, seven of our sisters were recognized with scholarships for their incredible dedication and service to the sisterhood. We spoke with the recipients of the Suzanne Sames Alpha Delta Chapter Scholarship: Caroline Hartdegen '19, Emily Mclaughlin '19, Emma Kramer '19, Maggie Dimler '19, Caroline Elking '20, and Katelyn Hunter '20, as well as the recipient of the Cindy Gates Wood Scholarship, Lindsey Wide '20. These sisters share their hopes for the future below. HOW DOES THIS SCHOLARSHIP POSITIVELY IMPACT YOU? Caroline H.: The scholarship will allow me to spend more time focusing on my schoolwork and dedicating my time to my sisterhood. Emily: I will now have the financial support to continue my position in Gamma Phi Beta. I hope to be able to give back one day to members like me who also share a love for GPB. Emma: I was able to study abroad this past summer. Maggie: I am extremely grateful for this scholarship, which has allowed me to remain an active member of Gamma Phi Beta and continue to contribute to this chapter. Caroline E.: Having to pay for a significant amount of my college tuition and boarding, it means so much to have Gamma Phi on my side when trying to figure out where money is going to come from to get my bills paid. Katelyn: This scholarship will make it possible to pursue my nursing education while being an involved member of a sisterhood. Lindsey: Last year, I was faced with possibly leaving Mizzou and my sisters in ΓΦB. To keep my life as normal as possible, I worked every single day on top of being a full-time student. This scholarship has helped allow me to take days off from work to focus on schoolwork without having to worry about working overtime to pay my bills. WHAT FUTURE DO YOU HOPE TO SEE FOR THE CHAPTER? Caroline H.: I hope to see us grow with our academics. We have always been a smart chapter, but I know we can push ourselves to get our GPA to new heights. Emily: I hope to continue to see a growth in the strong sisterhood ΓΦB has. I hope to see us recognized in uplifting the community and giving back more. Emma: I hope that our chapter can become more accessible to girls from different financial backgrounds. Diversity makes sisterhood more dynamic. Maggie: The future is bright. During my four years here, I have seen these girls persevere through many challenges and step up when help is needed. We just completed another recruitment, and I am very excited to see the leaders that emerge. I hope that we continue to recruit hard-working girls who add value. Caroline E.: I have learned so many lifelong skills that will benefit my future career. I have learned to take every opportunity, go to every event, put myself out there in every uncomfortable position, apply for every scholarship, and make the most of every moment. I hope that the future of Gamma Phi learns to do the same and make true and constant friendships that last a lifetime. Katelyn: I hope to see Alpha Delta Chapter continue to strive for authenticity, reaching goals and building strong women that will step into leadership. I am excited to see how this chapter can grow and strive for success! Lindsey: I hope that our chapter continues to learn the importance of supporting one another. One reason I am so proud of who we are is because I know, at the end of the day, these girls are the ones who have my back. Now more than ever, girls are facing many battles we may not be able to see, and I love how my chapter is implementing many programs to allow girls to reach out and receive help. WHERE ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR YOUR OWN PATH TO TAKE YOU? Caroline: I'm excited to graduate and pursue my goals of working in large- scale event management/marketing. I am excited to connect with more Gamma Phi Betas in whatever city I end up in after college. Emily: To make a difference by entering a career where I can do it in my everyday routine. With such supportive sisters, I think I will be able to do so. Emma: To graduate this year and apply to medical school. Maggie: This summer, I had the opportunity to intern with Kiewit in Tampa, Florida, and it was a great experience. I am so excited to continue my industrial engineering career upon graduation. Caroline E.: I am most excited to have my lifelong best friends at my side throughout the next chapters of my life. These women are my bridesmaids, the godmothers of my future children, my shoulders to cry on, and my biggest supporters. Katelyn: I am excited to see how my future career as a nurse will allow me to help others, and I cannot wait to see where this career will place me. Lindsey: I aspire to continue my education beyond these four years at Mizzou. This spring, I will be taking my DAT in hopes to apply to a dental school in 2023. I plan to work hard so one day, I can give back to the people who helped me when I was at my lowest.
